This first version of herringbone stitch has different steps, and makes a fabric that has more stretch. It's pretty and has great texture. Give it a try!

This next version on herringbone stitch creates a much tighter fabric with a more traditional herringbone look. It's a little more fatiguing for the hands, and can tolerate a much larger knitting needle that you might think!

It might be interesting to make a sampler, working several inches with one herringbone technique, then several more inches with the other herringbone style to see which effect you like best with your yarn!
