When I was a kid, learning to crochet, then knit, I used to save up my chore money to buy my Red Heart Acrylic Worsted (commonly known now as Red Heart Super Saver, or RHSS) at our local Safeway grocery store! I remember later buying it at Fred Meyer, and JCPenny too!
When box craft stores started carrying yarn, the local yarn shop became the exclusive territory of better knitters. Beginning and intermediate knitters, and particularly crocheters, were relegated to the limited selection of abrasive acrylic yarns available at the craft store.
As a young adult I recall venturing into one of these inner sanctums only to leave feeling inadequate and ridiculed for being a crocheter, as I was directed to the craft isle at the local variety store.
I started Perfectly Knotty in October 2013 with a vision to create a space where crocheters and knitters of all skill levels felt welcome and accepted. No judgement. No ridicule. Come as you are and be open to building your stitching skills to your next level.
I’m proud of y’all for stretching your skills, taking on projects with techniques just beyond your current skills, and staying with it to completion!
I’d love to hear from you! Have you felt out of place in a local yarn shop? Have you had unwelcoming experiences? Drop me a note and tell me about it. I want to make sure that your experience with Perfectly Knotty is welcoming and nurturing! More so now that I’m doing this online! I’d love to hear what experiences with online shopping, of any sort, you’ve had that have been great!
I’ve recently had a superb experience with an online store that provided personal and very responsive customer service, and it is inspiring me to be even better in the service I provide for my stitchers!
Love,
