Connected Foundation Double Crochet – Learn How

June 24, 2017

We have been learning a lot of powerful advanced crochet stitches, and this one is by far the most powerful.
Combining what you learned in Foundation Double Crochet with what you learned in Connected Double Crochet, the Connected Foundation Double Crochet closes ALL of the gaps! Literally in your crochet fabric and figuratively in your crochet skills mastery.

Here are the basic steps, followed by a comprehensive video tutorial. Grab your practice yarn and your crochet hook and lets get started.

Chain the desired number plus 2. Insert your hook in the 2nd ch from the hook and draw up 1 loop to make your “pretend yo”. This will also anchor your first stitch. Insert your hook in the next stitch yo and draw up 1 loop (3 loops on hook)
Yo and draw through the first 2 loops on the hook
Yo and draw through the last 2 loops, completing the stitch
Locate the horizontal bar in the middle of the stitch you just finished. In this picture it isn’t exactly horizontal, but the more stitches you connect, the more you’ll be able to see that bar.
** DO NOT YO. Insert your hook under that bar
Yo and draw up one loop. This creates what I call a “pretend yo” for the next dc, while connecting the stitches together
insert your hook in the next stitch, yo and draw up a loop
Working in the usual manner to finish a dc, yo and draw through the first 2 loops
Then yo and draw through the last 2 loops to finish the stitch **

Repeat ** to ** to the end of the row, or desired number of stitches.

At the end of the row the turning chain DOES NOT count as a stitch. Use it to anchor your first stitch. Ch2 turn.
Insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, yo draw up a loop, insert hook in the stitch at the base of the turning chain, yo and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook). YO and complete as you normally would for a dc.

DO NO YO, instead insert hook under the horizontal bar of the previous stitch, yo and draw up a loop to act as your yo, then insert your hook in the next stitch and draw up a loop so you have 3 loops. Then complete the stitch as you normally would for a dc.

Now, follow along with this tutorial video. Disregard the comments at the beginning about not being able to reply or respond to posts and comments! That was resolved! YAY!
