Meet Annette, Our Adventurous Hat Maker!

Today, we’re spotlighting Annette, a stitcher who’s not afraid to mix things up! She whipped up a cozy Bubble Hat, and let me tell you, it’s a real treat. When she’s not wrangling projects at work, she’s off on real-life adventures, channeling her inner Outlander hero!
A Glimpse into Annette’s World
Annette isn’t just a project manager; she’s a project adventurer! This gal loves trying new things, whether it’s snowshoeing through a winter wonderland, exploring new places, or tackling a tricky stitch. Her love for adventure definitely shines through in her creations, and her passion for Outlander keeps her creative juices flowing.
Crafting a Cozy Bubble Hat
Picture this: a hat so squishy and warm, you’ll want to wear it all winter long. That’s exactly what Annette created! She used a combo of Darned Good Yarn Yakity-Yak in a sweet pink and Hayield Chunky in a soothing Stoneacre beige. The “Bubble Hat” by Melody Lisa on Ravelry is the pattern, but really, it’s Annette’s color choices that make it pop. The Yak wool gives it this wonderfully rustic, luscious look, while the beige adds a touch of earthy elegance. It’s like a hug for your head!
What Sparked the Creativity?
Annette had a special request: “light pink and oatmeal.” Simple, right? But she took it to the next level! She told us, “This is my 3rd hat with this pattern, with a request for colors of ‘light pink and oatmeal’. The recipient loves it.” It’s so rewarding when you can make something someone else truly loves, isn’t it?
The Perfectly Knotty Journey
Annette found her yarn right here at Perfectly Knotty! Though these specific yarns are no longer available. The Yak wool was a first for Annette, and she described it as feeling “very much like sheep wool.” It’s always exciting to try new fibers, isn’t it?
Overcoming Challenges
Now, mixing different types of yarn can be a bit of it’s own adventure. Annette faced the challenge of working with two very different fibers. As Suzi notes, “It’s important to be attentive when using such different fiber types, for washing and care, gauge and tension. It is possible! And adventurously fun! But if gifting be sure the recipient knows how to care for the finished item.” Annette nailed it, but it’s a good reminder to be mindful of how different yarns behave!
A Masterpiece is Born!
Annette’s hat is a testament to her adventurous spirit and skill. The colors blend beautifully, and the texture is just begging to be touched. “It is quite luscious looking, and quite soft when all was said and done,” Annette shared. It’s clear she poured her heart into this project, and the recipient is absolutely thrilled!
Tips and Tricks
Annette’s adventure with Yak wool led her to some valuable insights. She suggests, “The Yak wool was a first for me, feeling very much like sheep wool.” Don’t be afraid to try new fibers, but always be prepared for a bit of a learning curve.
