Connected Double Crochet – Learn How

June 15, 2017 by suzi 3 Comments

We love the row height we get when we use a double crochet, but many times we do NOT  love the open gaps between the stitches!
Connected Double Crochet is a perfect solution! Join each double crochet to the one prior to it!
Did you even know you could do that!? Well, get your practice yarn and hook and lets get to it.
Then stitch along wtih the tutorial video I made for you!

Connected Double Crochet 1 - Perfectly Knotty
Chain the desired number plus 2. Insert your hook in the 2nd ch from the hook and draw up 1 loop to make your “pretend yo”. This will also anchor your first stitch. Insert your hook in the next stitch yo and draw up 1 loop (3 loops on hook)

Connected Double Crochet 2 - Perfectly Knotty
Yo and draw through the first 2 loops on the hook

Connected Double Crochet 3 - Perfectly Knotty
Yo and draw through the last 2 loops, completing the stitch

Connected Double Crochet 4 - Perfectly Knotty
Locate the horizontal bar in the middle of the stitch you just finished. In this picture it isn’t exactly horizontal, but the more stitches you connect, the more you’ll be able to see that bar.

Connected Double Crochet 5 - Perfectly Knotty
** DO NOT YO. Insert your hook under that bar

Connected Double Crochet 6 - Perfectly Knotty
Yo and draw up one loop. This creates what I call a “pretend yo” for the next dc, while connecting the stitches together

Connected Double Crochet 7 - Perfectly Knotty
insert your hook in the next stitch, yo and draw up a loop

Connected Double Crochet 8 - Perfectly Knotty
Working in the usual manner to finish a dc, yo and draw through the first 2 loops

Connected Double Crochet 9 - Perfectly Knotty
Then yo and draw through the last 2 loops to finish the stitch **

Repeat ** to ** to the end of the row, or desired number of stitches.

Connected Double Crochet 10 - Perfectly Knotty
At the end of the row the turning chain DOES NOT count as a stitch. Use it to anchor your first stitch. Ch2 turn.

Connected Double Crochet 11 - Perfectly Knotty
Insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, yo draw up a loop, insert hook in the stitch at the base of the turning chain, yo and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook). YO and complete as you normally would for a dc.

Connected Double Crochet 12 - Perfectly Knotty
DO NO YO, instead insert hook under the horizontal bar of the previous stitch, yo and draw up a loop to act as your yo, then insert your hook in the next stitch and draw up a loop so you have 3 loops. Then complete the stitch as you normally would for a dc.

Now, follow along with this tutorial video. Disregard the comments at the beginning about not being able to reply or respond to posts and comments! That was resolved! YAY!

Have fun with this and let me know how it works out for you!
Don’t forget to share this Connected Double Crochet tutorial with your stitching community!
Love,
