When you learn the crochet basics you are adding a powerful tool to your stitching toolbox.
If you are a knitter, knowing how to crochet can open up opportunities for different finishing techniques.
People ask me all of the time, “Which is easier, crochet or knit?”
I don’t think one is easier than the other, some people have more challenges with using the “2 pointy sticks” and find knitting to be awkward.
Other people find the intricately laced loops complicated when they first learn to crochet.
Another frequent question is, “Which is better?”
Neither is better than the other! For me, that is like asking, “Which is a better painting? Oil on canvas, or watercolors on linen paper?” NEITHER is better! They are just different!
Crochet and knitting have some inherently different qualities that suit each technique for different applications.
Crochet generally makes a thicker fabric and is less stretchy, giving your finished project more structure; which is great for some projects, but not for others!
Knitting is designed to be inherently stretchy, which gives movement and drape, which makes it more suitable for some projects, but not for others.
